The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the arrest of two Nigerian businessmen believed to be involved in a sophisticated cocaine smuggling operation. On October 28, 2026, the suspects, Aliocus Godian Odife and Sam Blackborn, were apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while attempting to board an Air France flight to Paris. According to the agency, both men had ingested a total of 200 wraps of cocaine, weighing approximately 3.460 kilogrammes, in a bid to transport the illicit drug to Europe.
Odife, who had returned to Nigeria for a brief holiday, was found to have ingested 110 pellets of cocaine. A thorough body scan conducted by NDLEA operatives raised suspicions, leading to his arrest. After being placed under observation, he excreted all 110 wraps, which tested positive for cocaine. Meanwhile, Blackborn was also detained after a body scan revealed that he had swallowed 90 pellets of the drug.
In a separate operation along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, NDLEA agents arrested a woman in possession of 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition. This incident underscores the agency's ongoing commitment to addressing not only drug trafficking but also the illegal arms trade that poses a significant threat to national security.
NDLEA officials are intensifying their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure that those involved in these criminal activities face justice. The agency's recent operations reflect a broader strategy aimed at curbing the influx of illicit substances and arms within Nigeria.
“Our resolve to combat drug trafficking and arms smuggling is unwavering,” stated an NDLEA spokesperson. “We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our borders and communities from the dangers posed by these illegal activities.”
