Sokoto-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Musa Ayuba Lukuwa, has made an impassioned appeal for calm following a knife attack that left him with a minor injury. The incident occurred shortly after the Jumu’at prayer at his mosque in the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis, prompting concerns among his followers and the local community.
In a video shared widely on social media, Lukuwa, who was seen with a plaster on his neck, assured his supporters that he was in stable condition and that the injury was not life-threatening. He expressed gratitude to those who came to his aid during the attack, noting that their swift response played a crucial role in preventing further harm.
"I urge my followers not to panic or retaliate. Anger will only escalate the situation, and it is important for us to remain peaceful," Lukuwa stated in his address.
The cleric recounted how the assailant approached him shortly after the prayers and attempted to attack him with a knife. Thanks to the immediate support from his congregation, he was able to escape with only a minor injury. Lukuwa's call for restraint comes at a time of heightened sensitivity in Sokoto, where any act of violence can lead to significant unrest.
Despite the alarming nature of the incident, Lukuwa's message of peace and stability aims to reassure his followers and the broader community that such acts should not provoke a cycle of violence. His leadership and the collective response from his supporters highlight the importance of solidarity in the face of adversity.
