PDP Disavows Petition Challenging Adeleke's Victory in Osun Governorship Election
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly disowned a petition contesting the outcome of the recent Osun State gubernatorial election, emphasizing that it did not authorize such legal action. This announcement comes as the party seeks to clarify its official stance on the election results amid rising tensions in the political landscape.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has categorically rejected a petition that questions the legitimacy of Ademola Adeleke's victory in the Osun State Governorship Election held on August 15, 2026. During a press conference, party officials stated, "We are here to tell you that the PDP did not authorise this petition. It is not our case. The party neither instituted, sponsored, approved, nor endorsed the petition challenging the outcome of the election." This statement aims to distance the party from any unauthorized legal actions that may undermine its position.
In response to the growing controversy surrounding the election results, the PDP's leadership underscored that the petition, which has gained attention in political circles, was not initiated by the party. Instead, they have called for an investigation into the source of the petition and the individual(s) who may be misrepresenting the party's interests. This move reflects the party's commitment to maintaining its integrity and unity ahead of future political engagements.
The Osun State gubernatorial election has been a focal point of political discourse in Nigeria, with Adeleke's victory being celebrated by his supporters as a significant achievement for the PDP. However, the emergence of this petition raises questions about the electoral process and the potential for dissent within the party. PDP officials have reiterated their support for Adeleke, asserting that any challenges to his election should be addressed through legitimate channels rather than through unauthorized legal avenues.
“We urge all party members and supporters to remain calm and focused on the work ahead, as we continue to support the mandate given to us by the people of Osun State,” a senior party member stated.
As the political landscape evolves, the PDP's clear disavowal of the petition signifies its attempt to consolidate its position and mitigate internal divisions. This development is likely to impact the party's strategy as it navigates the complexities of governance and accountability in Osun State.
