The Federal Government of Nigeria has committed a significant N249.6 billion to the health sector over the last three years, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access across the nation. This ambitious initiative aims to upgrade and enhance services in approximately 17,600 health facilities nationwide, according to the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako.

During a ministerial briefing held in Abuja, Salako highlighted the government's focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that quality health services are available to all Nigerians. The funding is intended to address the myriad challenges facing the healthcare system, including inadequate facilities, lack of essential medical supplies, and insufficient healthcare personnel.

“Our goal is to transform the health landscape of Nigeria by making healthcare accessible and efficient for every citizen,” Salako remarked, emphasizing the government's commitment under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The funds are expected to facilitate improvements in primary healthcare services, which are crucial for the well-being of the populace.

“With this funding, we are ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind when it comes to accessing quality health services,” Salako added.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize Nigeria's healthcare system, which has faced numerous challenges, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. By targeting a vast number of facilities, the government aims to create a more robust healthcare framework that can adequately respond to the health needs of the nation.
