Wike Advocates for Continuation of Tinubu's Economic Reforms to Ensure Nigeria's Recovery

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has underscored the critical importance of maintaining the bold economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria seeks to recover from its economic challenges. During a stakeholders' consultation held in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike stated that the success of the nation's recovery is contingent upon the continuation of the current administration's economic strategies.
Wike articulated that the hard economic choices being implemented by the Tinubu administration are essential remedies to revive a system that was nearly ‘dead’ upon his taking office. He remarked, “Only the continuation of the economic reforms initiated by the Tinubu government can bring this country back from the economic comatose it was in before this present administration took over,” highlighting the urgency of sustained reform.
In his address, Wike criticized opposition figures, particularly the presidential candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, asserting that they lacked viable solutions for Nigeria’s economic plight. He urged citizens to reject politicians he described as “career politicians” and “political opportunists,” warning that their leadership would only serve to divert national resources for personal gain rather than fostering economic stability.
“Supporting politicians who have made decades-long pursuits for power would mean diverting national funds to recoup lost campaign expenses rather than consolidating economic gains,” Wike stated, emphasizing the need for accountability and effective governance.
Wike's remarks come at a crucial time when Nigeria's economy is grappling with various challenges, and his advocacy for the continuation of Tinubu's reforms reflects a broader call for stability and focused economic policies as the nation navigates its recovery journey.
