In a bold assertion during a media engagement in Port Harcourt, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has leveled serious accusations against his counterparts in Imo and Kwara states, Governors Hope Uzodinma and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, respectively. Wike contends that both governors have actively worked against his political interests, despite the support he claims to have extended to them in previous electoral endeavors.
Wike's remarks come on the heels of the recent 2023 presidential elections, where he asserts that his political alliances were instrumental in securing President Bola Tinubu's victory over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi. He emphasized that the political dynamics could shift dramatically should Tinubu fail to secure re-election in the upcoming 2027 polls, indicating that his adversaries would likely target him.
Furthermore, Wike did not shy away from criticizing his predecessor in Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, who is currently the running mate to Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress. Wike dismissed Amaechi's qualifications for the vice presidency, further intensifying the political rivalry between the two former allies.
In his address, Wike expressed disappointment with Abdulrazaq's campaign against him, revealing that he had confronted the Kwara governor directly regarding these issues. He underscored the need for political gratitude, suggesting that both Uzodinma and Abdulrazaq should acknowledge the support he has previously provided.
Additionally, Wike took aim at the Nigerian Bar Association, criticizing its perceived alignment with political factions during its recent annual conference. This criticism reflects Wike's broader concerns about the intertwining of legal and political spheres in Nigeria, suggesting that such dynamics could undermine the integrity of governance.
As political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike's statements underscore a growing rift among influential political figures in Nigeria, signaling potential shifts in alliances and rivalries as the nation approaches another critical electoral cycle.
