United States Advances to Women's Basketball World Cup Final After Narrow Win Over Spain
The United States secured a place in the Women's Basketball World Cup final with a hard-fought 76-66 victory over Spain. They will face France in a highly anticipated rematch following their previous encounter at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The United States women’s basketball team has booked their spot in the World Cup final after overcoming a spirited performance from Spain, winning 76-66 in the semi-finals held in Berlin. This victory extends the American team’s remarkable winning streak to 35 matches, a run that has not seen them lose since a semi-final defeat by Russia in 2006.
Spain, previously regarded as underdogs, put up a strong fight, leveling the score at 58-all by the end of the third quarter. However, the experience and composure of the eleven-time champions shone through in the final period, where they outscored their opponents by ten points to seal the win. Breanna Stewart led the scoring with 16 points, while Kahleah Copper contributed 13 points, demonstrating the depth and skill of the American lineup.
Looking ahead to the final, Stewart emphasized the need for focus, saying, "That’s over, you know what I mean? We won that game and that game is over and this is a completely new game tomorrow. Everybody has their own things that continue to motivate them... but this is one game to win the gold medal in the World Cup in Berlin, and that’s our entire focus." This upcoming clash against France is particularly significant as it is a rematch of the gold medal match from the 2024 Paris Olympics, which the US narrowly won by just one point.
Despite the loss, Spain can take pride in their performance, having previously reached the World Cup final in 2014. Their early lead in the match highlighted their potential and resilience, but the Americans proved too strong in the closing stages. The final promises to be an exciting encounter, as both teams vie for the prestigious title on the world stage.
