In a harrowing incident that underscores the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, four individuals were killed when gunmen ambushed a convoy of security personnel in Plateau State. The attack, which occurred while the convoy was en route, has sparked widespread outrage and fear among local communities, who are increasingly becoming targets of violent assaults.
Dalyop Mwantiri, president of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), was traveling with the convoy at the time of the ambush. He described the scene as chaotic, with gunfire erupting suddenly, leaving both security personnel and civilians in a state of panic. “It was a horrifying experience. We didn't expect such an attack while we were on a routine patrol,” he said.
The Plateau State region has seen a disturbing rise in violence and attacks attributed to armed groups, which have increasingly targeted security forces and innocent civilians alike. This latest attack raises serious questions about the effectiveness of security measures in place to protect citizens and maintain peace in the area.
Local leaders and community organizations are now calling for increased security measures and government intervention to curb these violent incidents. Concerns over safety and the protection of residents have reached a critical point, with many urging authorities to take immediate action to address the root causes of this insecurity.
“Our communities are living in fear. We need stronger security presence and a comprehensive strategy to tackle this menace,” Mwantiri emphasized.
