TikTok Ban Sparks Controversy: Peller Under Fire for Alleged Role in Carter Efe's Account Suspension — The Abuja Times Newsroom

The digital landscape of Nigerian social media has been shaken by the recent permanent ban of comedian and musician Carter Efe's TikTok account, which boasted over 5.6 million followers. The ban, attributed to repeated violations of TikTok's Community Guidelines, has led to widespread speculation regarding the motivations behind it, particularly following the resurfacing of an old video featuring fellow creator Peller.

In a clip that surfaced on September 9, Peller is seen appealing to his audience to report Efe’s account, suggesting a coordinated effort to undermine Efe's growing popularity. This video has prompted many social media users to connect Peller's prior comments to the subsequent suspension of Efe's account, although no concrete evidence has emerged to substantiate claims that Peller's actions directly influenced TikTok’s decision.

“He accused Carter Efe of sabotaging other creators and suggested a strategy to get the account taken down,” a user noted, highlighting the contentious nature of the video.

This incident marks the second time Efe has lost a significant TikTok account; his previous account, which had around 3.5 million followers, was removed in June 2025 amid controversy following remarks made about Afrobeats star Wizkid. Despite these setbacks, Efe managed to rebuild his follower base to 5.6 million before facing the latest ban.

The situation has reignited discussions about the competitive nature of content creation in Nigeria, raising concerns about the ethical boundaries that creators might cross in pursuit of online fame and success. As the digital ecosystem continues to evolve, the implications of such rivalries could have lasting effects on the community of Nigerian content creators.
