Severe Flooding and Windstorms Displace Communities in Taraba State
Recent natural disasters have devastated seven Local Government Areas in Taraba State, prompting urgent calls for residents to evacuate to higher ground. The TSEMA executive secretary has urged those in flood-prone areas to seek safety in designated temporary camps.

Taraba State is grappling with severe flooding and damaging windstorms that have wreaked havoc across seven Local Government Areas (LGAs). The calamity has left many residents in peril, prompting the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) to issue a critical warning for those living in low-lying, flood-prone regions.
In a statement, the executive secretary of TSEMA urged affected residents to relocate to safer, elevated areas or designated temporary camps to safeguard their lives. The agency is coordinating efforts to assess the damage and provide necessary relief to those displaced by the floods, which are exacerbated by the ongoing rainy season.
The affected LGAs include some of the most vulnerable communities, where infrastructure is often inadequate to withstand such extreme weather events. Local authorities are mobilizing resources to ensure that displaced families receive food, shelter, and medical assistance as the situation continues to unfold.
"We cannot overemphasize the importance of evacuating to safer grounds during such emergencies. It is crucial for the safety of our people," the TSEMA executive secretary stated.
As the state faces this environmental crisis, officials are also calling for a comprehensive review of disaster preparedness strategies to mitigate the impact of future occurrences. The community's resilience will be tested in the coming days as they navigate the aftermath of these destructive events.
