Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has categorically denied allegations linking him to banditry, asserting that these claims are a product of political machinations aimed at tarnishing his reputation. In a statement released from Abuja, Buba described the accusations as 'fabricated' and devoid of any factual basis, insisting that they are merely part of an ongoing smear campaign against him.
The allegations, which have gained traction online, suggest that high-profile bandit leaders visited Buba's residence and that he financially supported some of them for a pilgrimage to Mecca. Responding to these claims, Buba emphasized that they must be verified through legitimate evidence rather than accepted based on viral videos. “These claims must be subjected to proper evidentiary standards—not accepted merely because they appear in a viral video,” he stated.
Buba revealed that since he transitioned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and became its governorship candidate in Bauchi State, he has faced intensified attacks. He noted that old, manipulated videos are being recirculated with misleading captions, further fueling the campaign against him.
“I have taken legal action against individuals behind these allegations in courts in Nigeria and Niamey, Niger Republic,” Buba added.
In his pursuit of justice, Buba has filed a criminal complaint in Niamey, seeking the prosecution of Hassan Saleh Hussein for alleged defamation and insults disseminated through electronic channels. This legal approach underscores his commitment to clearing his name and confronting what he describes as a deliberate effort to undermine his political aspirations.
