In a recent address, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Muhammad Sanusi II urged the current leadership of the CBN to harness the potential of fintech data to drive savings and insurance solutions across Nigeria. Sanusi highlighted that the financial ecosystem should not only focus on facilitating transactions but should also forge connections with critical sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and other productive industries.
Sanusi's remarks come at a time when Nigeria's economy is grappling with various challenges, including inflation and a lack of comprehensive financial inclusion. By integrating fintech solutions with traditional banking practices, he believes that the CBN can create a more robust financial system that contributes to national development. “We need to rethink how we engage with our economy. It is essential that our financial institutions become enablers of growth,” he stated.
The former governor emphasized that fintech data can serve as a valuable resource for understanding customer needs and preferences, which can lead to tailored financial products that meet the demands of diverse sectors. “Farmers and manufacturers need more than just transactional services; they require financial tools that can help them save, invest, and insure their assets,” Sanusi asserted.
Furthermore, Sanusi called on stakeholders to collaborate in creating an inclusive financial landscape that leverages technology to reach underserved populations. “The future of finance in Nigeria lies in our ability to adapt and innovate. By bridging the gap between finance and productive sectors, we can stimulate sustainable economic growth,” he concluded.
