Plateau State Faces Escalating Violence Amidst Curfew Measures
Despite the imposition of a curfew aimed at restoring peace in Plateau State, violent incidents continue to plague communities, resulting in multiple fatalities. Recent ambushes on security personnel and civilians highlight the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Plateau State is grappling with a troubling surge in violence, even as the state government has enforced a curfew intended to quell unrest in affected communities. The curfew, which restricts movement from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas, appears to have had little effect on the ongoing attacks that have left residents in fear.
In a disconcerting turn of events, just a day after the curfew was announced, reports emerged of a deadly ambush on security personnel belonging to Operation Rainbow along Gagshi Road. The attack resulted in the death of one officer, with three civilians also losing their lives in a separate incident at Rakok, also known as Kafi Abu, in Barkin Ladi. These incidents brought the total death toll to four, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the curfew.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the ambush occurred around 4 p.m., well before the curfew was set to take effect. This troubling pattern of violence during daylight hours suggests a significant challenge for local authorities as they strive to restore order. Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, the President of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, narrowly escaped the ambush. He expressed his fears about the growing insecurity, stating, “I would have also been involved in that incident if not that God, out of His mercy, saved me.”
The persistence of violence in Plateau State underscores a complex security crisis that has eluded resolution despite government interventions. As communities continue to suffer from both day and night attacks, the local government faces mounting pressure to devise effective strategies to protect its citizens and restore a sense of safety.
