In a move aimed at enhancing the governance landscape in Nigeria, Phillips Consulting has launched a revised edition of the 2026 State Performance Index (pSPI). This updated index serves as a crucial tool for assessing state performance, offering more comprehensive metrics that reflect the evolving needs of governance in the country. The new edition supersedes the initial pSPI released on July 23, 2026, and is intended to set a definitive benchmark for performance measurement across Nigeria's diverse states.
The State Performance Index is designed to provide stakeholders—including policymakers, civil society, and the general public—with a clearer understanding of how well states are delivering on their commitments. By employing a variety of metrics, the pSPI holds state governments accountable for their performance in areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and economic development. This revised version aims to address feedback from initial users and incorporate lessons learned during the initial rollout.
According to a spokesperson from Phillips Consulting, the updated index reflects the dynamic nature of governance and the necessity for continuous improvement.
“The 2026 State Performance Index is not just a measurement tool; it is a call to action for state governments to strive for excellence and transparency in their operations,”the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the index's role in promoting accountability.
As Nigeria continues to navigate challenges related to governance and service delivery, the introduction of the revised pSPI is expected to foster a culture of performance-driven governance. It encourages states to compete positively, thereby improving overall public service delivery and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
