The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is taking a firm stance on accountability following the recent deaths of miners in Niger State, with Commandant General Professor Ahmed Audi assuring that no personnel will be protected from scrutiny. During a condolence visit to the families of the deceased, Audi emphasized his commitment to justice and transparency as investigations into the incident proceed.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, the NSCDC's National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, highlighted the ongoing efforts to uncover the truth surrounding the fatalities. Audi's visit was not only to express condolences but also to reinforce the Corps' commitment to cooperate fully with the investigative committee established by the Federal Government.
“The Corps would not shield anyone found culpable,” Audi stated, indicating that relevant personnel involved in the case have been placed in protective custody to ensure their availability for the investigation. This proactive approach aims to restore public confidence in the NSCDC's operations and its dedication to upholding the rule of law.
“Justice and transparency will take precedence,” said Audi during his visit, addressing concerns raised by the affected families.
The tragic incident has raised serious questions about the conduct of security personnel in operations involving civilians, and the NSCDC's commitment to a transparent inquiry is seen as a crucial step in addressing these concerns. As the investigation unfolds, the NSCDC's actions will be closely monitored by both the public and the families affected by this devastating event.
