In a recent statement, Wunti has raised critical concerns regarding Nigeria's approach to its mineral resources, advocating for a shift towards job creation rather than the export of raw materials. He highlighted that the country is endowed with 44 different minerals, which, if harnessed properly, could significantly boost the economy and provide employment opportunities for millions of Nigerians.

Wunti cautioned against a repeat of the crude oil model, where Nigeria has historically exported unprocessed oil and subsequently imported refined products at exorbitant prices. This practice not only drains the country's wealth but also stifles local industry and entrepreneurship. He stated, “If we continue to export our minerals in their raw form, we are essentially exporting poverty and undermining our own economic potential.”

To combat this trend, Wunti urged the government to implement policies that encourage local processing and value addition to mineral resources. He suggested that creating an enabling environment for investors in the mineral sector can lead to the establishment of industries that would not only process these resources but also create jobs and support the local economy.

“The true value of our minerals lies in their ability to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. We must shift our focus from mere extraction to sustainable development,” Wunti added.

As the global market increasingly favors sustainable practices, Nigeria stands at a crossroads where it can redefine its economic strategy through the responsible management of its mineral wealth. By prioritizing local production and processing, the nation can move towards a more self-sufficient and prosperous future.
