The federal government of Nigeria has escalated its response to the confirmed Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by identifying 53 contacts associated with the outbreak, a significant increase from the initial count of 44. This proactive measure comes as health authorities work to prevent further transmission of the virus, which has already raised alarms across the country.

To support those affected, the government has approved an emergency payment of N100,000 per individual per week for those placed in isolation or quarantine. This financial assistance aims to cover essential needs such as feeding, accommodation, and family upkeep during this critical period.

Dr. Jide Idris, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), provided updates at a briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of immediate action to contain the virus. He also mentioned that the health status of the confirmed patient has shown improvement, although he urged against complacency and highlighted the need for timely precautions.

In response to the outbreak, Lagos State has intensified its Ebola surveillance efforts, particularly at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where officials are on high alert for any potential cases. Despite the heightened vigilance, authorities confirmed that there are currently no suspected cases in the state.

Additionally, Zamfara State has activated its own Ebola surveillance protocols after a passenger arrived at an airport displaying a fever of 38°C. This incident underscores the ongoing need for robust health measures as Nigeria navigates the challenges posed by the virus.
