The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced the successful repatriation of 105 Nigerians who were rescued from cybercrime syndicates operating in Ghana. This operation underscores the Nigerian government's ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and protect its citizens from exploitation, particularly in the context of irregular migration.

According to a statement from NAPTIP's Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, the rescue was part of a coordinated effort involving multiple Nigerian security and law enforcement agencies. The operation was initiated after the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana reached out to NAPTIP, leading to collaboration with agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Adekoye noted that the Ghanaian government reported a total of 119 Nigerians were rescued during the operation, with 105 successfully repatriated to Nigeria. The remaining 14 individuals are currently undergoing processing. This collaborative effort has received praise from various stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations and international partners who are involved in addressing human trafficking issues.

Highlighting the significance of this operation, Adekoye emphasized that it reflects the administration of President Bola Tinubu's commitment to citizen-focused policies aimed at safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians, especially those vulnerable to human trafficking and exploitation abroad. The Federal Government's proactive stance in tackling such issues is expected to foster greater trust and cooperation between Nigeria and other nations in addressing the challenges of irregular migration.
