Naira Strengthens Against Dollar, Trading at N1,370 in Parallel Market
The Naira has shown signs of improvement, appreciating to N1,370 per dollar in the parallel market, with official rates also reflecting a positive trend. This shift indicates a narrowing gap between the parallel and official exchange rates, providing a glimmer of hope for the Nigerian economy.

The Nigerian Naira has recently demonstrated a notable recovery, rising to N1,370 per dollar in the parallel market as of yesterday, up from N1,375 the previous day. This upward trend reflects a broader appreciation of the Naira across various trading platforms, with the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) also reporting an improved rate of N1,329.5 per dollar, down from N1,331.
According to data released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the indicative exchange rate for the Naira has seen a slight increase, indicating a 1.5 Naira appreciation. This development is significant as it narrows the gap between the parallel and official market rates to N40.5 per dollar from N44, marking an important shift in the currency's valuation.
The interbank turnover in the NFEM has experienced a dramatic surge, climbing by an impressive 122.6 percent, reaching $179.6 million, compared to $80.6 million just a day earlier. Such activity in the foreign exchange market suggests increased confidence among traders and investors, potentially signaling a more stable economic environment.
“The recent appreciation of the Naira is a positive indication for the economy, as it reflects increased trading activity and a narrowing of the exchange rate gap,” said a financial analyst.
This strengthening of the Naira could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria's economy, especially as it relates to inflation and the cost of imports. Economic experts will be closely monitoring these developments to assess their impact on the broader financial landscape in Nigeria.
