Lagos State is poised to strengthen its support for the creative industry, as articulated by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat during the recent launch of the Euphoria360 Hub in Oregun, Lagos. This initiative, backed by actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, underscores the government's commitment to fostering an environment where creativity can thrive and where local talents can compete on a global stage.
Dr. Hamzat highlighted the state's ongoing investments in creative infrastructure, which include the development of theatres in various divisions such as Ikorodu and Badagry. He emphasized that while Lagos is rich in creative talent, it is crucial to establish the right structures and opportunities to harness this potential effectively. “The state is already investing in creative infrastructure, which includes the development of theatres,” he stated, reinforcing the government's proactive approach to nurturing the arts.
Moreover, the Deputy Governor indicated that the administration is exploring further opportunities to expand training programs in diverse creative disciplines such as filmmaking, acting, and photography. His ambitious goal is to train up to one million Lagosians across various fields, linking these skills directly to employment opportunities and thereby fostering a sustainable pipeline of globally competitive talent.
“The objective is to create an enabling environment where creative professionals can showcase Nigerian culture to the world while earning commensurate economic value,” Hamzat remarked, reflecting a vision that extends beyond mere training.
This commitment to the creative sector is part of Lagos State's broader strategy to enhance its economic landscape, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria is not only preserved but also monetized in a way that benefits its citizens. As the state continues to develop its creative infrastructure, it aims to position itself as a leading hub for artistic expression and economic growth in the region.
