The Katsina State Government has firmly rejected any association between a recent outbreak of violence in Yankara and the campaign rally of gubernatorial candidate Radda. In a statement released by the state authorities, officials emphasized that the unrest stemmed from disagreements during a Maulud procession, a religious celebration commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
According to eyewitness reports, the altercation escalated to the point where two vehicles were set ablaze, leaving several individuals injured in the chaos. The government has called for calm and urged citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation that could exacerbate tensions in the community.
Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state, particularly as the election season intensifies. "The events in Yankara should not be politicized or misconstrued as a reflection of the current political climate," a government spokesperson stated, reinforcing the administration's position against any form of electoral violence.
"We urge all stakeholders to focus on constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement as we approach the elections," the spokesperson added.
The Katsina government has also promised to investigate the incident thoroughly to identify those responsible for the violence and to ensure that such occurrences do not happen again. As the political landscape continues to evolve, officials emphasize the importance of safeguarding communal harmony and encouraging a peaceful electoral process.
