IGP Olatunji Disu Sets Timeline for Redeveloped Police Barracks in Lagos — The Abuja Times Newsroom

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has officially set a target for the completion of redeveloped police barracks in Lagos, aiming for the facilities to be ready for occupation between December 2026 and January 2027. During a recent inspection tour of several police housing projects, Disu expressed his concern over the ongoing displacement of officers, who have faced significant challenges since the demolition of outdated barracks.

Disu highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “All the officers are eager. They have seen their barracks demolished and have been forced out of the structures. They are looking forward to new ones, and I am having the same feelings.” The IGP's remarks underline the pressing need for adequate housing for police personnel, who play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in the country.

Despite facing delays reported by contractors, Disu remained optimistic about the timeline for completion. He noted that while some projects had encountered setbacks, stakeholders assured him that barracks would be habitable by the end of the year or early next year. “I have been IGP for about six months, and this issue has been around for much longer,” he stated, emphasizing the need for swift action.

The inspection covered approximately 21 police housing projects at varying stages of development across Lagos. This initiative is part of a broader effort to engage with stakeholders and ensure that the redevelopment of police barracks is prioritized and completed efficiently. The commitment shown by the IGP aims to not only restore housing for officers but also to enhance the working conditions that are essential for effective policing.
