In a decisive move to uphold democratic principles, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has cautioned supporters of the Labour Party against interfering with the campaign activities of opposition parties as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. Speaking during the launch of the Labour Party’s campaign in Umuahia, Otti asserted that he has not authorized any party member to obstruct the rights of others to campaign freely.

Otti's comments come at a critical time when political tensions are rising ahead of the elections. He emphasized that all political parties have the right to utilize public facilities, including stadiums, for their campaigns, provided they secure the necessary approvals and adhere to the established regulations. The governor stated, “I have since given a public directive, and I am repeating it here, that opposition parties should not be restricted from the use of public facilities, including the stadium, once they apply and obtain the necessary approvals.”

Highlighting the importance of a fair electoral process, Otti made it clear that anyone found guilty of obstructing rival parties will face arrest, regardless of their political affiliation. “Membership of the ruling party will not confer immunity on anyone who attempts to undermine the democratic process,” he warned, reinforcing his commitment to a level playing field for all candidates.

The governor's directive aims to foster a peaceful political environment as the state gears up for the elections, ensuring that all parties can engage in healthy competition without fear of harassment. By directing security agencies to monitor compliance with these guidelines, Otti is taking a proactive stance to protect the integrity of the electoral process in Abia State.
