Former VON Director Urges Tinubu to Embrace Wike's Coalition Amid APC Governors' Doubts
Osita Okechukwu, former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, has called on President Tinubu to disregard the apprehensions expressed by some APC governors and consider forming an alliance with the Rainbow Coalition led by Nyesom Wike. He contends that these governors lack the voter mobilization capacity necessary for the upcoming elections.

In a bold political move, Osita Okechukwu, the former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to overlook the concerns raised by several governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding his electoral strategy for 2027. Instead, Okechukwu advocates for a partnership with the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance led by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, which he believes could enhance Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term.
Okechukwu’s remarks come in the wake of growing dissatisfaction among certain APC governors, who have expressed doubts about their ability to rally voter support in their respective states. According to Okechukwu, these governors may not possess the necessary political clout to effectively mobilize constituents, thereby limiting Tinubu’s electoral prospects. He emphasizes that the coalition with Wike, a seasoned politician with substantial influence, could provide an alternative route to galvanizing support for the president.
“The reality is that some of these APC governors are not equipped to deliver the votes we need,” Okechukwu stated in a recent interview. “It is crucial for the president to consider alliances that can bring more votes to the table, and Wike’s Rainbow Coalition could be that game-changer.” His call for unity and strategic collaboration reflects a growing sentiment within the party for a more inclusive approach as the 2027 elections loom closer.
The potential for a partnership between Tinubu and Wike poses interesting dynamics within Nigerian politics, particularly as it seeks to bridge divides and enhance political synergy amongst various factions. As the APC gears up for the upcoming elections, the effectiveness of this strategy will be closely monitored by political analysts and the electorate alike.
