In a significant development for technological education in Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, officially inaugurated an ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State. This event attracted a multitude of dignitaries, including state governors, industry leaders, and local residents, all of whom gathered to witness the launch of a facility designed to equip Nigerian youth with essential digital skills.
During the inauguration, Senator Tinubu highlighted the Centre as a pivotal investment in the future of Nigerian youths, urging that such initiatives are crucial for fostering the competencies necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital global economy. She stated, “This project aligns with the mission of technical institutions like Oko Polytechnic, focusing on practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills that are imperative for the modern workforce.”
The establishment of the N1 billion ICT hub positions Oko Polytechnic among other global institutions that recognize the transformative power of information and communication technology (ICT) as a catalyst for economic growth and social change. Dr. Chioma Awuzie, the Rector of Oko Polytechnic, echoed this sentiment, asserting, “The future belongs to those institutions that can equip their students with the skills required to navigate and succeed in a technology-driven world.”
With the launch of this Centre, Oko Polytechnic aims to enhance its educational offerings and ensure that students are not only well-versed in theoretical concepts but also proficient in practical applications of technology. This initiative is expected to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s broader economic development goals.
