The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a substantial allocation of ₦631.3 billion for nine key road projects aimed at bolstering Nigeria's transportation infrastructure. This decision was announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who highlighted the importance of these projects in enhancing connectivity and promoting economic activities across the nation.
According to Umahi, the approved projects will involve the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of critical road corridors that are essential for facilitating movement and trade. These infrastructural upgrades are expected to significantly improve the efficiency of transportation networks, which are vital for both urban and rural communities.
Umahi noted that the investment in road infrastructure is not only a step towards improving accessibility but also a strategic move to stimulate economic growth. By enhancing road connectivity, the government aims to reduce travel times and transportation costs, thereby benefiting local businesses and encouraging investment.
“These projects are designed to strengthen our transportation networks, making it easier for goods and services to move across the country,” Umahi stated during the FEC meeting.
This funding approval comes at a time when the country is facing numerous challenges related to road conditions and transportation inefficiencies. The government’s proactive approach in addressing these issues through substantial financial commitments reflects its commitment to improving the nation’s infrastructure and overall economic landscape.
