The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria has granted approval for the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, a move anticipated to be one of the largest capital market transactions in the country's history. This approval was communicated in a letter to Vetiva Advisory Services Limited, the lead issuing house for the IPO, and represents a significant step forward for the refinery's operational and financial aspirations.
The proposed IPO includes an offering of 4.1 billion ordinary shares, priced at ₦525 per share, with the potential to raise an impressive ₦2.15 trillion if fully subscribed. Additionally, the SEC has registered the refinery's existing 120.13 billion ordinary shares, a further indication of the scale and ambition of this project. The regulatory clearance not only validates the refinery's operational framework but also establishes a pathway for investment opportunities in a key industrial asset in Africa.
Located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex spans approximately 2,635 hectares and is designed to be a world-class integrated refining and petrochemical facility. This development is not just a financial venture; it is poised to enhance Nigeria's self-sufficiency in petroleum products, reduce import dependency, and stimulate job creation across various sectors.
“The SEC’s approval is a significant milestone in the evolution of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, further strengthening Nigeria's capital market and opening new avenues for investors,” said Abdulkadir Abbas, Director of the Securities and Investment Services Department of the SEC.
As the refinery gears up for its Completion Board Meeting and Signing Ceremony, stakeholders and investors alike are keenly observing how this landmark IPO will reshape the landscape of Nigeria’s economy and contribute to the broader African market. The successful execution of this IPO could set a precedent for future investments in the region, fostering a more robust and dynamic economic environment.
