Atiku Abubakar Challenges Tinubu to Embrace Transparency Amidst Renewed Allegations
In a bold statement, Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to allow public scrutiny of his records, countering the resurgence of past allegations against him as a diversion from the current government's failures. He criticized the desperation of those in power, suggesting that their inability to address pressing national issues is driving them to resurrect old controversies.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has issued a compelling challenge to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to open his records for public scrutiny. This call comes in the wake of renewed circulation of allegations stemming from political rivalries dating back to the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, which Abubakar asserts are nothing more than an attempt to distract from the current government's shortcomings.
In a statement released on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar characterized the resurfacing of these decades-old claims as indicative of a political strategy employed by opponents who feel cornered by their inability to address the pressing issues faced by Nigerians today. He stated, "At some point, desperation announces itself. When those defending this government can no longer explain why food, transportation, electricity, rent, education, insecurity, and healthcare are increasingly beyond the reach of ordinary families, they rummage through twenty-year-old files looking for an escape route. This is panic dressed up as accountability."
Abubakar further emphasized that the allegations against him had already been thoroughly examined during his political disagreements with the Obasanjo-led administration, leading to no convictions. He reiterated, "Let us not rewrite history," suggesting that the current narrative serves as a convenient distraction from the administration's failures in governance.
As economic challenges continue to plague Nigeria, Abubakar's remarks resonate with many who are concerned about the rising cost of living and the government's accountability. His call for transparency not only highlights the need for political leaders to be open to scrutiny but also reflects a growing demand among the populace for responsible governance and effective leadership.
