Felix Morka, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress, has refuted claims of discord between the party's governors and Minister Nyesom Wike, asserting their unified commitment to President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign. The political landscape ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections appears to be more cohesive than previously speculated, according to Felix Morka, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a recent television interview, Morka addressed rumors of a rift between the APC governors and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stating that such tensions are largely exaggerated. He characterized the perceived disagreements as a 'false battle,' underscoring the collective dedication of both parties to President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid.
Morka elaborated on the collaboration between the APC governors and Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, who is now a prominent member of Tinubu's cabinet. The spokesperson noted that their shared political objectives render reports of discord insignificant, as both sides are united in their extraordinary commitment to the president's campaign. 'I don’t think there was any real tension between those positions,' he remarked, reinforcing the notion that their mutual interests overshadow any alleged conflicts.
Furthermore, Morka pointed to the recently published list of the presidential campaign council, which includes not only APC governors but also leaders from other political parties. This inclusion, he stated, serves as an indication of Tinubu's ability to galvanize support across party lines, demonstrating a broad coalition in support of his re-election efforts. 'Governors who are not of the APC are now front and center, coordinating some of the campaign activities,' he highlighted, suggesting a strategic approach to broaden the electoral base.
“It was a false battle to begin with,” said Morka, emphasizing the unity among political leaders in the face of upcoming elections.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the APC’s strategy appears focused on fostering alliances and reinforcing collaborative efforts among various political factions, with hopes of presenting a united front against competing parties. Wike's active role in the campaign is seen as a pivotal asset, strengthening the APC's position in the political arena.
