APC Dismisses Opposition's Unity Summit as Futile Effort Ahead of 2027 Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has labeled the recent summit of Nigeria's opposition parties as a failed attempt to unite, indicating that it reflects their anxiety about the upcoming 2027 general elections. APC officials argue that the opposition's scramble for unity comes too late to change their fortunes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected the outcomes of the recent summit organized by the G100, a coalition of Nigeria's opposition parties, branding it a 'dead on arrival' initiative. According to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the summit only underscores the desperation of the opposition as the 2027 general elections approach. He emphasized that the participating parties are more concerned with personal agendas than with genuine national interests.
In a statement delivered through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda questioned the sincerity and effectiveness of the opposition's efforts, stating, "If they could not organize themselves within four years, it would be an impossibility to now scramble for victory within four months." This criticism highlights the APC's belief that the opposition's late mobilization will not yield any significant results.
Adding to the APC's sentiments, Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and a prominent human rights lawyer, reiterated his earlier stance that the coalition's efforts were ultimately leading to nowhere. He suggested that the opposition's struggles are a clear indication of their acceptance of a likely defeat in the upcoming elections, stating, "The whole thing is symptomatic of their acceptance of a crushing defeat in 2027." Keyamo urged the opposition to consider withdrawing and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instead.
This development comes at a crucial time as Nigerian political parties gear up for a highly anticipated electoral season, raising questions about the viability of the opposition's strategies as they attempt to unify and challenge the ruling APC.
