In a noteworthy announcement, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer have been named in England's squad for the Nations League, marking their return after being omitted from the World Cup roster. Alexander-Arnold, now a Real Madrid player, is included for the first time since June 2025, while Palmer returns after controversially missing out on a World Cup squad that progressed to the semi-finals before succumbing to Argentina.
The 27-man squad assembled by manager Thomas Tuchel also features rising stars Rio Ngumoha, Alex Scott, and Jarrad Branthwaite, who have been recognized for their impressive performances. Ngumoha, the teenage winger, made his debut against New Zealand in June and has been a standout in training. Scott's inclusion comes after his participation in the pre-tournament training camp in Florida, and Branthwaite receives his first call-up under Tuchel's management.
Returning to the England setup are Lewis Hall, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, all of whom have shown potential in previous matches. However, the squad sees notable absences, with Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Adam Wharton missing out on recalls. Tuchel has opted to drop several members from the World Cup squad, including Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, and Noni Madueke, suggesting a shift in strategy as England prepares for the upcoming fixtures.
This announcement comes just nine weeks after England's World Cup exit, highlighting Tuchel's commitment to rejuvenating the squad with fresh talent as they aim to make a significant impact in the Nations League. The inclusion of both seasoned players and newcomers reflects a balanced approach towards building a competitive team.
