ADC Lawmakers Demand Investigation into Alleged Unlawful Arrests of Party Members in Kebbi

Lawmakers representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria have raised serious concerns regarding what they describe as unlawful arrests of their party members in Kebbi State. In a formal appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the ADC legislators assert that these detentions are not only unjust but are also politically motivated, aimed specifically at suppressing dissent within the party.
The lawmakers allege that the affected individuals were targeted due to their affiliation with the ADC, raising fears of political repression in the region. They argue that such actions undermine the principles of democracy and the rule of law, which are fundamental to Nigeria's governance.
In their statement, the ADC lawmakers emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into these arrests, urging the IGP to ensure that the rights of citizens, particularly those with differing political views, are protected. They highlighted that democracy thrives on the ability of political parties to operate freely without fear of harassment or intimidation.
“We cannot stand by and allow our members to be victimized simply for their political beliefs. We call on the IGP to take immediate action to address this injustice,” said one of the lawmakers.
This situation in Kebbi reflects broader concerns about political tensions in Nigeria, where various political parties often face challenges related to their operations and the treatment of their members by law enforcement agencies. The ADC's call for an investigation is part of a growing demand for accountability and transparency in the handling of political matters by security forces.
